The Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) Nature Coast Chapter volunteered their community service time again this year to the Family Resource Center in Hernando, FL. Chapter members contributed their package wrapping skills to help reduce the number of packages down from the 1,000 needed by December 20.
“We provide for approximately 1,700 children during this time of the year. We could have at least 200 more children before the Christmas Season is over,” said Channing Heater, administrative assistant at the Family Resource Center.
Case workers and people in the community make the recommendations of needy children and assist in the delivery of the wrapped packages before Christmas. The Family Resource Center started out as the Foster Family Association over 30 years ago starting in 1983, according to CEO Ginger West. The Family Resource Center collaborates with every major agency in Citrus County that works with families and children. Individuals and groups are welcomed and encouraged to wrap presents and assist the Center in their very important mission.
The FPRA, Nature Coast Chapter meets the first Friday of the month at Citrus Hills Country Club. The professionals in the association are part of the prestigious organizations and businesses in Citrus County, everything from the local utility, county government, school board, and hospitals to name a few. They have the skill level to provide for their organizations effective business communications including dealing with the print and electronic media on a daily basis.
During chapter meetings there is time allotted for networking where discussion takes place among professionals providing industry tips and support for one another. That’s the time where those with less experience have an opportunity to gain knowledge from the more seasoned professionals about communication plans and how to make businesses more successful.
During the lunch portion of the meeting FPRA industry professionals from around Florida provide advanced quality educational programming for the membership. Subject matter can include: business communications and marketing, crisis communications, public relations ethics, emergency communications planning, or successful media communications. These kinds of education programs would cost serious dollars in this economy, and are available to the membership and visitors for the price of the luncheon.
