Mandy Kimmer, APR, CPRC, public information officer for Orange County Parks and Recreation in Orlando, was born and raised near Pittsburgh. She earned BAs in Public Relations, Journalism and Economics from Florida Southern College, Lakeland; became accredited in 1993 when it wasn’t yet a national program; then became a certified public relations counselor in 1994. She has worked with Parks for the past eight years, and currently serves as co-founder of the Zebra Coalition’s Jefferson R. Voss Education Fund for LGBT students, and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K by speaking to groups about surviving breast cancer (now three years – woohoo!).

Previously she worked the University of South Florida College of The Arts, the national headquarters for the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Tampa Museum of Art, and American Red Cross – Tampa Bay Chapter and Red Cross of Florida.

Mandy is the proud mom of sons Matthew, 22, who is a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, training for Cobra helicopter mechanics; and Andrew, 18, a freshman at the University of South Florida – College of Engineering.

Presentation: Do-It-Yourself Public Relations

During my 30+ years in public relations and marketing, technology has both improved and complicated the way we promote and maintain an organization’s brand. Your image is now spread across the pages of a website; social media that includes Facebook, Twitter and emails; and, of course, the traditional news media and advertising. You don’t need to break your budget but you need to balance the choices. I’ll offer suggestions on what works best to keep costs down, and how to keep up with the variety of promotional avenues.
